We decided to keep the concept of our VR game pretty simple. We went with a maze in which the objective was to find the gold coin without getting lost in space (which actually happened a few times before I ACTUALLY found the coin).
The game design was pretty simple to put together. We had a normal maze, with a few invisible walls of course, a background image of space (which came from the assets store) and a gold coin at one end of the maze (also from the assets store).
okay, ill admit I learned a lot in this class this semester. From learning the purpose behind the horn on a train to learning how to make my life just a tad less complicated with a simple 3D print.
While I struggled in most of the things in this class, I can proudly say that this project was one of the lower things on that list.
I decided to create a lipstick holder to keep my makeup vanity (and my life) a little more organized. When I stupidly made the decision to use freecad I honestly threw that idea out of the window and said fuck it, lets look up a tutorial on how to make something else using fusion 360. On the lovely youtube I found a step by step tutorial on how to make an actual lipstick print. This was my first time using Fusion 360 (as I foolishly didn’t submit the previous fusion assignment) and obviously my first time actually 3D printing and let me tell you that while I misjudged the size of my lipstick, I didn’t end up with spaghetti (still a win right?)
Here’s a picture of my miniature lipstick, next to my can of monster just so you can get a feel for how much I was off with the size.
While I was just going to submit this as my assignment, something in me decided to give the lipstick holder another try and let me tell you that I DID THE DAMN THING. Using the skills I picked up following the lipstick tutorial I was able to bust out an awesome freaking lipstick holder that really is going to make my life a lil better.
This was the first draft of the lipstick holder created with fusion and once I again, I misjudged the size and had to shrink it down a bit because this wouldn’t fit on the printer bed.
He
Here’s what I REALLY ended up with.
I’d just like to add in that I am currently writing this on the Thursday night before this assignment is due (man I am so glad you extended the deadline) because my print took 9 hours to finish. I am super excited, and a little bit nervous, to go to the Ihub tomorrow and pick it up but if I botched my second print, at least I didn’t botch the first print and I mean, its the thought (and effort) that counts amirite?
Update: It is now Friday morning, I have secured, the print, and it is bomb af
I kinda wish the printers would’ve been capable of printing my original holder because I definitely have more lipsticks than this but hey maybe ill be back in the fall to print a couple more of these haha
Tbh I wish I would’ve listened when you said that getting an operating system onto the raspberry pi was stupidly easy because… you were right. I immensely regret keeping the damn assessment grade instead of just exerting the little bit of effort it took to run an OS but, we live and we learn. I chose to keep it pretty simple and load Raspbian onto my raspberry pi. To achieve this I plugged my SD adapter into my laptop and downloaded the Raspbian program. Once this was downloaded I needed to flash it. I quickly realized that the program “The Unetcher” completely sucked, so I decided to use the program balenaEtcher instead. This program made my life MUCH less complicated.
Once the flash was complete I was able to boot Raspbian on the monitor and explore. I messed around with the terminal and even figured out how to manually update the date and time because apparently, the raspberry pi was under the assumption that we were stuck on July 9thinstead of August 1st.
To manually change my date and time I opened the terminal and used the code Sudo date –s “Thu Aug 1 16:14:50 EDT 2019”
Once I message around with the terminal and figured out how to reboot (using code sudo reboot) I decided I should try to take it a step further.
I attempted to download RetroPie onto my raspberry pi through Raspbian. I tried a few times, and sadly, this was a lot less easy than getting Raspbian onto the pi.
The first step to the madness was changing the local options on the Pi. To do this I used the terminal and the code: sudo raspi-config
Once there, I chose the 4thoption – Localisation Optionsand then chose option T1 – Change Locale
From here, I scrolled down to select – en_ZA.UTF-8 UTF-8
After that was completed, I used sudo reboot to reboot the pi. One the Pi was rebooted, using the terminal I double checked that each parameter was set to en_US.UTF-8 using the code locale in the terminal.
From here, I needed to double check that git was installed in Raspbian so I used code sudo apt install git and found out that it was already installed.
I decided to change my original idea as once I got to thinking, I realized I’d also have to 3D print something to actually hold my shelf up on the wall. That was a no go so I decided to do something a little more in my league. A lipstick holder for my collection.
The lipstick holder will be 7 in long, 5 in wide, and 4 in tall. I honestly blanked and couldn’t remember how to create holes in my figure BUT the second picture shows where all of the holes are supposed to be that will hold all of the lipsticks.
I thought this was a great idea, but now that I’m sitting here writing this blog post I think I may have fucked up. I don’t know how I didn’t realize it sooner, but I’m assuming if I tried to actually print this it would really just print with one giant hold throughout the whole thing as opposed to separate compartments like I want. well… I’m still gonna submit this rough draft (emphasis on the rough) and go back to square one
One of my favorite things to do in life is complain and give my opinion on all of the shitty things that can be improved. With that being said, I think this assignment fits me well.
One of my many problems right now is having way too much makeup in my desk, and not enough space to put it efficiently. I literally have drawers full of makeup and every time I want to use something I have to dig through a bunch of crap to get to it and end up just making a mess.
I think 3D printing a few shelves to hang around my desk/ vanity area would improve my life times 10 because then I could just put my commonly used makeup items there and I can avoid all the hassle.
Just picture the amount of makeup within those drawers…. crazy
Well….. I wish I would’ve taken my IDS/IFS credit sooner so I wouldn’t be here writing this post. Freecad, aka hell, has been just that. I hate my life and I hate this program.
I wish everything had such an intricate tutorial to it because then id be a 3D modeling pro. but being that I was thrown to the sharks, the image(s) that follow are… rough to say the least.
Object 1
I know what you’re thinking. “thats not bad” yeah well, considering that I followed super specific step by step details, I would hope not.
It gets much, much worse.
Object 2
Between my procrastination and the tutorial taking me so damn long, I used my critical thinking skills and decided it would be best for me to simply move on to object 3, however, here is a picture of my desk.
Object 3
Again, due to a combination of procrastination and a struggle with the tutorial, I didn’t have enough time to figure out how to complete the second part of object two which is why it isn’t exactly 3D. However, I think that my idea was pretty great, while also prob pretty basic.
I am sooooooo glad we’re done with this program now
ok I lied in my title. I am lowkey having some regrets about this class but I’m too deep already so might as well just trudge through at this point.
Like app inventor, tinkercad closely resembles a slow, miserable death.
PVC Pipe
umm
Egg
Floppy
Spoon
Bowler
Flask
This is where the aviators SHOULD be, but tbh the first six were R O U G H, so I decided that it would be best for mental health if I didn’t attempt the seventh image.
Team F, aka the best team in the class, has been killing it with our app. I don’t wanna give away too many details because what’s the fun in that?
Originally we had the idea to create a random number generator app with different die (regular dice, 6 sided die, and a 20 sided die) but we very quickly realized how hard it would be to create a 3D figure of a dice, let alone 3 die, so we switched up our idea a bit.
Now we are creating a game in which the character has to jump over objects coming towards him while collecting coins.
While I’m completely ass at using app inventor, I have been able to help my team by keeping some bomb notes of our progress and I’ve thrown in a couple of ideas here and there to keep the game interesting.
As my title says, today I’ll be telling you about the worst thing in my life currently… yup, you guessed it. AppInventor.
Was I warned about this horrid program? Yes. Was I prepared for the shitshow that is app inventor? Not at all. And since the program was created for elementary schoolers, I guess I’m NOT smarter than a fifth grader.
Let me just say – Thank God for Youtube because without that… it wouldn’t be pretty. With the help of my dear friends youtube and google, I was able to create a very, VERY rough draft of a scheduling app for makeup artists.
On the home page of the app you have a welcome page that directs you to schedule your appointment. You will see the week that we are currently in and you can select on the date of your choice and that will direct you to the next screen.
Welcome page on a phone.
Blocks that allow you to click on the date and open the next screen.
While I haven’t made it that far yet, my plan from here is to have the next screen be the “services” screen which will allow the client to pick which service they want done. After that they will be able to select the time for their appointment, and once that is done they will be prompted to the confirmation page.
Stay tuned for that as I’m sure that will be an interesting blog post to read LOL
Hey hey hey, my name is Alyssa Valle, I’m a Senior studying Sociology with a minor in family and child sciences (1/2 a minor in business and 3/4 of a minor in psychology lol). I’m a member of the FIRST and LARGEST Latina sorority in the nation, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, inc.
While in school I realized that my real passion is in makeup so I decided to get certified as a makeup artist but I didn’t stop there. I went on to open up my own small business selling false lashes. My business has been open for almost a year now and it has done pretty well so far.
As you probably figured by now, I’m only in this class for the IFS/IDS credit BUT I am pretty excited to learn about new technologies that I have no idea how to use and maybe one day I can print my own 3D lashes for my business lol
Because I’m extra, I’m putting multiple pictures. Enjoy seeing my sorority sisters, my puppy aka first born and my makeup 🙂
